Unique Ways To Use Concrete In Your Home's Flooring

Blog

Interior designers make creative use of concrete in commercial buildings. Some of the same techniques can be used in the home to create unique and stylish floors. When you're ready to update the look of the floors in your house, here are some ways that you can use this versatile material to create eye-catching surfaces.

Kitchen Flooring

A concrete floor can be tinted to match the color of the walls or appliances in the kitchen. After the floor is poured, but before it has cured, stencils are used to create lines on the concrete to look like individual tiles. A darker stain is applied to the lines to look like grout. The floor is then sealed with a clear resin that is polished to a high gloss. The final result looks like a ceramic or stone tiled floor.

Dining Room Flooring

You can create the look of a marble floor in your dining room with concrete. The concrete is first tinted to look like the basic marble color of your choice. Then color is added to create the characteristics veins found in marble. A resin coat is applied and polished to a shine. The dining room floor will look as if it were constructed from a single slab of marble.

Bathroom Flooring

You can create a fresh, clean look in your bathroom with stamped concrete. The concrete is first tinted white and poured on the floor. Stencils are applied to the floor to create the look of small square or hexagonal tiles. Stamps are then used to make impressions in the concrete "tiles" of geometric figures, sea shells or other figures. A slightly darker wash is applied to the figures to create contrast. The floor is then sealed with a resin and polished to a high gloss.

Hallway Flooring

Use concrete to create a conversation piece in a hallway floor. Tint the concrete to the desired background color and pour it in the hallway. Before the concrete has set, place small decorative items into the floor, such as stones, sea shells, marbles or coins. A layer of resin is then poured over the concrete and the objects, covering them completely. The floor is polished to a gloss. You now have a hallway floor in which the items appear to be suspended in the floor beneath people's feet.

Decks and Walkways

Outside, you can use concrete to create decks that look like wood by coloring the concrete and stamping it with wood grain patterns. Walkways can be created with stencils and colored highlights to look like bricks or stones. You can integrate real stones with the concrete to create natural-looking paths through the yard and around your house. Contact a business that offers stamped concrete for more information.

Talking About Concrete Contractors

Hi there. My name is Murray Swanson. Welcome to my website about concrete contractors. When I started my home renovation project, I was stuck on what to do with the area outside my home. I knew I wanted to have a large circular driveway, but I did not know how to proceed with designing the pathways and other concrete structures. My contractors helped me create a perfect design and construct the pathways and driveway for my project. I will use this site to discuss all of the different services provided by concrete contractors. Please visit my website again soon to learn more.
