Use Concrete Ready Mix To Repair The Surface Of The Deck Overlooking Your Property's Vegetable Garden

Blog

If the unsealed concrete deck overlooking your property's vegetable garden has a couple cracks running along one of its edges, repair the damage with ready mix concrete by completing the following steps. Once the deck's beauty has been restored, seal its surface to prevent cracks from forming again.

Materials

  • push broom
  • dustpan
  • deck scrub brush
  • detergent designed for concrete
  • water hose
  • bucket
  • bag of ready mix concrete
  • mixing stick
  • trowel
  • putty knife
  • plastic sheeting
  • masking tape
  • concrete sealer
  • paint roller

Sweep Up Loose Pieces Of Concrete And Clean The Deck's Surface

Use a push broom to sweep up loose dirt and concrete into a dustpan. Make a cleaning solution by adding a small amount of detergent that is designed for concrete into a bucket of water. Apply the cleaner to the concrete's surface with a deck brush. Press the brush's handle down firmly so that the cleaning tool's bristles apply pressure to the concrete. After any staining on the deck's surface has been eliminated, rinse the concrete with a strong stream of water for several minutes to eliminate soapy residue. Wait for the concrete surface to dry.

Repair The Cracks In The Deck's Surface

Prepare ready mix concrete by following the instructions on the back of the package that the mix came in. You will need to add concrete mix and the appropriate amount of water to a clean container and mix the two items until they are evenly blended. Add the mix to the tip of a trowel. Insert the tool into each one of the cracks to fill them with the mix. If some of the mix will not come off of the trowel while you are completing this step, use a putty knife to scrape the concrete mix into the damage areas.

Smooth out the surface of the filled spots with one of the flat sides of the putty knife. If too much concrete mix is accidentally added to one of the cracks, wipe up the excess right away with a damp sponge. Wait for the concrete mix to harden.

Seal The Deck

Use strips of masking tape to secure sheets of plastic sheeting to hardware, a railing, or any other item connected to the deck that you do not want covered with concrete sealer. Apply sealer to the deck with a paint roller. Begin in one of the deck's corners and add the sealer in straight lines until all of the concrete has been covered. Wait for the deck to dry completely before walking on it or adding any items to it.

The deck will remain protected throughout each season. As long as you clean the concrete surface regularly with the proper materials, it will remain damage-free for several years.

Talking About Concrete Contractors

Hi there. My name is Murray Swanson. Welcome to my website about concrete contractors. When I started my home renovation project, I was stuck on what to do with the area outside my home. I knew I wanted to have a large circular driveway, but I did not know how to proceed with designing the pathways and other concrete structures. My contractors helped me create a perfect design and construct the pathways and driveway for my project. I will use this site to discuss all of the different services provided by concrete contractors. Please visit my website again soon to learn more.
